Ryan had a solid weekend but at the end of the day it was shy of where it needed to be.  The week consisted of four total penalty shots, all of which were on reachable par fives. When the majority of the field can reach these holes in two shots, it’s very hard to afford penalty shots over the long run. One of the penalty shots Ryan still saved par, but we also made bogey with wedge on another.

At the end of the week all those shots add up to enough to get us near the very top. It’s even more frustrating to end the event the way we did. On hole 15 we had about 6 feet for birdie to go to (-18) for the event. Walking off 18 we finished at (-16) which was definitely a numbing feeling.  In the middle of the fairway on 18 we had a yardage that could have been four iron or three hybrid. Ryan chose the four and didn’t hit it great and went into the pond short of the green.  It’s hard to know if it was a bad swing from a wrong club or just a bad swing in general.  It’s a lonely feeling standing in the middle of the fairway knowing how much each shot means after it finds the drink. But, one must prevail and move forward.

Ryan did have a nice run of birdies today on holes 10-13. He made an 18 footer for birdie on hole 10. He chipped it up to 2 feet on hole 11.  He hit 7 iron to 15 feet on hole 12 for birdie. And to cap off the four bigger he hit 7 iron to roughly 5 feet. So he had a nice little stretch to make a run on the back nine. It was definitely a delight to see a game look so easy.

Next week the tour heads to Fox Den Country Club just outside Knoxville Tennessee for the 20th event of the season. It’s a nice little course that once again will produce some massive amounts of birdies. Ryan knows the course well and has had some solid rounds at the event both years.
